House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert started out the hour with Hugh discussing the fallout from the Foley scandal, and then a fascinating interview with former Washington Post senior political writer, Thomas Edsall, who in his own words noted that fellow Post writer Bob Woodward’s credibility is less than stellar.
Hugh covered the rest of the news of the day, and spoke with America’s professor, David Allen White, on a 1951 short story by Flannery O’Conner that predicted some of the violence we’ve seen at the Amish school and other places.
Dr. Helen Smith, aka Mrs. Instapundit, forensic psychologist, analyzed the culture and the rise in sucides by males in the United States. Later in the hour, House Rules Committee Chairman, David Dreier, reacted strongly to the actions of former Congressman Mark Foley, and analyzed the last week in this session of Congress.
Hugh put politics on hold for a day, and spent most of this hour, and in fact, most of the show, on what is wrong with this culture that suicidal people seem more intent on taking innocent people out with them, as in the Amish school in Pennsylvania today.
An expert on dealing with suicidal males and teen shootings, Dr. Smith looked a little deeper into why these guys are taking others out with them on their death journey.
