With all due respect to… Lee Greenwood, was it?… the podcasts really aren’t a big burden, especially now after the election.

At least for the “regular” show, there’s probably an average of 1/2 to 2/3rds each day that I don’t need to bother listening to any more, and since the commercials are already gone, that means I can get through it all in 30 to 45 minutes.

And that means I often spend more actual time listening to the Aftershow than to the previous 3 “hours” (really half-hours) with Hugh and largely irrelevant guests.

Just a few examples from today: I don’t need any more information about same-sex marriage, I have no interest at all in Reagan.com, and I’ve only ever needed to listen to half of the Smart Guys EVER because I already know that Erwin is always wrong. The quality (or not) of his presentations doesn’t matter a subatomic particle to me. Barack Obama says “2+2=5” eloquently (at least he used to, sometimes) but that doesn’t make it correct.

Kerry, you have described my sentiments very well. Though I am not happy about it I find I am beyond caring about those issues. The Aftershow is my favorite part and often the only thing I listen to.

Part of my point too, although I didn’t state it specifically, is that the podcasts are still worth paying for. Both to be able to skim through the parts of the regular show that don’t matter, and to be able to hear the Aftershow AT ALL which wouldn’t happen if we only listened to “Free” radio.

That in addition to having to wait through all the stuff we don’t care about, including the commercials. And if it was just that, I suspect we’d say that without the Aftershow, the rest could easily become not worth paying for. Which means that Duane is now responsible for close to, if not over, half of the web site/membership/podcast revenue by virtue of the fact that many people wouldn’t bother paying especially now if it didn’t mean getting the Aftershow.

So we’re in agreement: Duane needs a raise.
